Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Carlo Monolo
Joseph “Joe” Carlo Monolo of Beaverdam Virginia passed away on May 11, 2021. Joe is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith Monolo; sons; Joseph Robert Monolo (Christy), and Michael Bauer Monolo (Missy) of Beaverdam, Virginia; his daughter; Tracey Monolo Goldberger (Jonathan) of Fairfax, Virginia; grandsons; James and Conway Monolo, and Paxton Goldberger; step-grandsons; Ben, Garrett, and Miles Goldberger, and adopted granddaughters; Summer and Arayna Price of Beaverdam, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his son; Patrick Angelo Monolo of Wilson, North Carolina. Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Vera Monolo of Kirkwood Missouri, and is survived by his brother Tim Monolo (Mary) of Chesterfield, Missouri, and preceded in death by his sister; Sherry Seidel of Tucson, Arizona. Joe graduated in 1967 from The University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors in Science in Chemical Engineering and held a Master of Applied Mechanics from The University of Virginia. Joe was employed for more than 38 years by The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. While at Dahlgren, Joe was honored with the John A. Dahlgren Award, the highest accolade given which honors individuals with significant achievements in science, engineering or management. In addition to his work achievements, Joe was also an active member of the community. Joe served on the School Board for Hanover County, Virginia, served as the Treasurer for the Montpelier Center for the Arts, and was an active member of the School House Investment Club. Joe will be remembered for his love for family and friends, Notre Dame football, his dogs; (Duke and Sunni), cooking, sense of humor (Yeah Buddy), master woodworking skills, and his world famous “spaghetti.” A viewing will be held at Trinity Church in Beaverdam, Virginia, at 10:00 a.m. with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on May 15, 2021.
