Joyce Harris Payne

Joyce Elizabeth Harris Payne, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025. Joyce was born on April 27, 1931 to Karl and Annie Harris in Louisa County, Virginia. After her mother passed away, she was raised by her grandparents, Joseph and Ida Hall. Joyce worked in offices doing payroll and bookkeeping. After retiring from full time employment, she worked at Kings Dominion during the summers selling tickets. She made lots of friends wherever she worked and also in her neighborhood. She was famous for making pies which she gave to friends and donated to the rescue squad fundraisers. She taught Sunday School and Primary for over 40 years. She loved to travel, read, help her friends, and do genealogy. Joyce was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brother, Earl; baby sister, Margaret; and her husband, Carl.

She is survived by her children, Kenny, Mike (Cherry), and Brenda (Patrick); her grandchildren, Mark (Lyndsey), Thomas, Johnathon, Chris (Terri), Angie (Will), Justin (Nicola), and Karen (Andrew); as well as 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery, 175 Oak Leaf Dr., Louisa, VA 23093.
