

She was a vibrant and compassionate soul who touched countless lives throughout her journey.
Julie graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and later pursued a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her dedication to helping others led her to a fulfilling 23-year career as the House Director of Family Services at William Byrd Community House. Even after retirement, Julie's passion for service continued through her part-time work at Riverside Pace and Atlee Christian Academy.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Julie nurtured a deep love for dogs. Her dedication to dog training resulted in winning several AKC awards with her beloved canine companion, Blue. Their bond was a testament to Julie's kindness and unwavering affection for animals.
Julie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her loving spouse, Robert “Rob” E. Maitland and their canine “son” Blue; brother, Lawrence Loxley Jacobs III; her aunt, Jane Show Shelton; cousins, Richard Lewis Shelton II, Samuel William Shelton III, Celia Shelton Fox, and Shannon Shelton Craig; nephews, Peter “Matthew” Covington, Nicholas “Nick” Swain Adkins; sister-in-laws, Gale Maitland Adkins-Fritchley and Valerie Maitland Covington, and a wide circle of cherished friends. Julie was predeceased by her mother and father, Julia Shelton Jacobs and Lawrence “Jake” Jacobs.
A memorial service will be held in April to celebrate Julie's life and legacy. Details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie's memory may be made to Affinity Hospice.
Julie's kindness, compassion, and dedication to her community will leave a lasting impact on the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
