It was a blessing to meet and know Dr. Winters. He was an extraordinary man of compassion and integrity. One knew immediately upon meeting him at his veterinary practice that he was in it for the love of animals and their humans. He cared deeply for animals and always extended himself outside the box to help. My sincere condolences to his family. May these memories of him bring you comfort and joy to know how much the Hanover community thought of Dr. Winters. He has been missed so much since his retirement but I wish he could have had more time on this Earth. He had so much to give. After knowing him for more than thirty years and moving a few times meeting other veterinarians I have yet to meet one as competent and caring as him. He left a beautiful imprint on our community showing how to care and be kind. God bless him and his family.

Dr Winters, I doubt, would remember me or my family. But he was there when Darla reached her end of life. He was there when we adopted a little pitbull pup, Carly, and helped us welcome her to our family. He was a comfort and a skilled surgeon who performed her double ACL surgeries, and he allowed me to pay over time as I was in the middle of a tough transition in life. He made things easy when things were very hard, he loved each and every pet we ended up bringing through the doors - from guinea pigs to a bearded dragon, our parade of stray cats and our beloved dogs. He is remembered and missed by us, and will forever hold a special place in our, our our fur babies, hearts. Condolences to your family, he was a wonderful man who no doubt touched many, many lives - both two legged and four.

I met Larry years ago; then he came to help me at Patterson after selling Hanover Green. His breadth of knowledge and easy going style was a perfect fit. I will miss him more than words can say.

I met Larry many years ago now when I took my elderly English setter to him for acupuncture. He certainly gave her the gift of a more comfortable life and was one of the few vets she seemed to enjoy seeing. And I enjoyed many a story from him during our visits. A wonderful man and friend of animals. He will be missed. Art, Midlothian, Va.

Bernie and family,
I just learned of your overwhelming loss from a classmate who saw the notice in the Dispatch. I recall attending your wedding, and having Larry as an usher in our wedding. I never saw him upset all the years I knew him, and consider him a great friend. Further words seem inadequate. I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Jay O'Neill

The first day I met Mr. Winters he greeted me with such a warm smile and a tender voice. In our conversations he spoke with so much passion and joy about his years of being a vet, and his trips to the outer banks and how everything was so peaceful and beautiful down there. The world has truly lost an amazing human being. May the family find peace in this difficult time.

I loved playing on Larry's basketball team. It was a privilege being a part of his life for a time. I always appreciated his wit, his kindness and his intellect. I was always impressed with his dedication to family and profession. My condolences to Bernadette and children.
