Lenny proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. He also dedicated 35 years to serving and protecting his community with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Lenny was a devoted member of Berea Baptist Church, where, prior to his illness, he faithfully served as a Deacon and member of the church security team.
Of all the roles Lenny held throughout his life, one of his greatest joys was being “Papa.” He cherished his grandchildren: Junior Cornetta, Jeb Cornetta, Paisley Burleigh, Landon Dean, Gracelyn Dean, Bryson Cornetta, and Ezra Burleigh.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 42 years, Janice Poyner Dean; his three devoted and loving children, Greg and Chelly Dean, Andrea Dean, and Bryan Dean, all of Ashland; and his sister-in-law, Amanda Houghton (Todd) of Mechanicsville, in whose life he played a loving and significant role throughout her lifetime. He also shared a special, brotherly bond with his cousin, Ralph Johnson (Linda).
Lenny leaves behind a lifetime of service, faith, laughter, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Lenny's visitation at Berea Baptist Church, 15421 Pouncey Tract Rd, Rockville, Virginia 23146, on Sunday, September 27, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Lenny’s memory by donating blood or contributing to the charity of your choice.
