I was fortunate to have Mrs. Varner as a nursing instructor at RMHSON.  She was dedicated to her nursing craft and definitely enjoyed sharing her experience with  students.  She was certainly a favorite and very memorable instructor.  
My sincere condolences to your family.

I graduated from RMH in 1976.  I loved having her as an instructor!  She was so upbeat and encouraging!

I will fondly remember Ms. Varner as a kind and compassionate nursing instructor in my first semester of Nursing school. She was a knowledgeable nurse who took seriously her responsibility to prepare competent and confident future nurses. I will never forgot not passing my first skills check-off, handwashing, and the stern reminder from Ms. Varner how important this skill was. Thankfully she extended grace for brand new nursing students and allowed a second attempt! I have no doubt she played a significant role in the career trajectory of hundred (if not thousands) of nurses. I am thankful to have learned from the best.

Ms Varner was one of a kind. I graduated from RMH in 78. She was the perfect example of how to be a nurse. She was the best example of what to be.  I'm so blessed to have known her. May she rest in peace. To her family there are so many of us who are great nurses because of her.

25 years ago I graduated from Bon Secours Memorial School of Nursing.  Mrs. Varner was my instructor.  She made a huge impact on my nursing career.  I wouldn’t be the nurse I am today without her positive influence.  

I’m truly sorry to hear of her passing.  I hope all the wonderful memories bring comfort.

This is my nursing school class. I had Miss Varner for my first semester. She was a wonderful teacher.

Mrs. Varner was one of my favorite instructors at RMH School of Nursing!! She had a wonderful way of teaching us and included humor. She truly cared about each one of us! She taught us the leadership course and as a Nurse Leader of over 30 years, her words resonated with me for my career. 
My sincere condolences to her family. Please know that she touched many a patient through each one of her students for years to come!!

I met Lin and her husband Tom when I was only 17 years old working as a server at Verena at the glen we instantly clicked, Every day she would order a Tea to drink with 2 lemon slices and some sweet and low packets. years later I started working as a server at Sancerre and the first person I saw was Lin, she looked at me and said what are you doing here and gave me the biggest hug. I would always tell her she was my favorite resident, and she would laugh or just shake her head at me and smile. I'm truly going to miss you Lin

We will always remember with affection all your teachings, your sense of humor, your different ways of saying “I love you” many times without having to say that word, thank you for your legacy in life. I am sure that you will accompany us at the side of your beloved Thomas in a spiritual way and that you will be present in our lives in many ways beyond the physical. We will continue to find you in every kitten, in every cardinal bird, in your favorite foods, in the sports you loved, in the music you listened to… that is where we will look for you and find you, that is where you will continue to accompany us forever. Rest in Peace, Mama Linda.

 I will see you on the other side when the time comes to continue sharing that orange sherbet, a grilled cheese sandwich or some pancakes with pecans. With love, Edgar.

Mrs. Varner was one of my nursing instructors from RMH SON and I was also honored to be a part of her medical team the last several years. She was a caring and knowledgeable nurse with an amazing sense of humor that she maintained through challenging circumstances in recent years. I will forever remember the wisdom she instilled in her students and I worked hard to never "assume" anything about a patient which is one of my favorite memories of Mrs. Varner. My prayers are with her family during their loss.

I first met Lin when I was a new faculty at Richmond Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. I was assigned to teach a course with her and was nervous as I had no prior teaching experience. She took me under her wing and “showed me the ropes” of nursing education. I learned from her that you could have high standards and expectations for students while also being approachable and caring. Lin had a superpower of identifying students with great potential who needed a little extra nurturing and worked with them closely to help them succeed. There are hundreds of nurses in Richmond and surrounding areas who are working to help patients achieve optimal wellness who were influenced by Lin’s knowledge, skills and passion for nursing and nursing education. I am still teaching and will always be grateful to LIn as an incredible role model and mentor.
