Dr Cannon was my professor for Anatomy and Physiology several years ago. He was an excellent teacher, and I was one of 4 people who had earned and was selected by him to not take the final exam. He told the four of us to hold onto that moment when things get hard or you doubt yourself go back to this moment in time and know you are special and no challenge is too great. He said to me during a lab that I was very intelligent and would be a real asset in my profession some day. I am deep in my profession now, and there has been more than once I went back to that moment in time and what he had said to me. I happened to look him up as my daughter is now taking classes at VCU and had met him when she was little when she had helped me with a nutrition project to see if he was still teaching. I am so sorry to discover his passing. I wish him peace in his journey ahead, and to his family my condolences. God bless. Laura Earp-Hughes

Please accept the heart-felt condolences from Dr. Cannon's Math and Science colleagues at Reynolds Community College. "Doc" was an integral part of our school and made a difference in each student he taught. I had the pleasure of working with him from our days at Germanna Community College to Reynolds. I was so sorry to hear of Mahlon's passing. My parents went to college and my father to medical school with him, so the Cannons have always been a second family to me. Each time I remember seeing him, he was always so pleasant and easy-going and had a warm, friendly smile. I know he will be greatly missed. To the Cannon Family: may you find comfort in your loving memories of Mahlon and may strength and courage find you during this difficult time. My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you.
