

Margaret Jane Hayes, 87, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the comfort of her faith. She was born on September 26th, 1938. Margaret lived a full and meaningful life, devoted to her family, her work, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Smith Brooks.
Margaret is survived by her loving daughter, Sherrie Goodloe, and her husband, Ray; their children, Raymond Goodloe and Erica Brannan, and her fiancé, Ryan Hall; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Kolbe, Calvin, Nobleigh, and Khole. She is also survived by her son, Johnnie Hayes, and his wife, Arlene; their children, Charlie Hayes and his wife, Wren, and Elizabeth Bigelow and her husband, Ben.
She is further survived by her brother, Pete Brooks; her brother-in-law, Frank Stone; and dozens of nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as “Aunee” and held her close in their hearts.
Margaret had a passion for life that was evident in everything she did. She loved to travel and found great joy in gardening, nurturing beauty wherever she could. Her quick wit and warm personality made her a favorite among her many friends, who adored her just as much as she adored the thoughtful jewelry they often gifted her.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Margaret spent over 45 years in the food service and grocery industry. She began her career at National Supermarket and went on to serve at Liberty Middle School, H&P, Walmart, and Food Lion, forming lasting connections along the way.
Margaret was a woman of strong faith. She attended Berea Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and spiritual comfort throughout her life.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at a later date.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their thoughts, prayers, and support during this time. Margaret’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all who knew her.
