

Matthew Thomas Richman, age 28, of Hanover, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026, following a courageous 18-year battle with diabetes. Through the gift of organ donation, he was able to help improve and save the lives of others.
Matthew is survived by his loving mother, Margaret Richman; his brother, Marshall Cole Richman; and his father, Mark Richman. He is also survived by his uncle, L.G. Cox and Amy Whittaker; his uncle, Nelson Richman; his aunt, Janet Washington; and several beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Megan Richman, his grandparents, Buddy Cox, Mike Richman, and Margaret Evans.
Born on July 12, 1997, Matthew was known for his adventurous spirit, strong opinions, and zest for life. Affectionately known as “Bunkey” by his family and friends, he embraced life with a fearless attitude, a contagious smile, and a willingness to try just about anything. His unique ability to bring laughter to those around him left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Matthew graduated from Hanover High School in 2015 and worked at Hanover Precast, the family business founded by his grandfather, Buddy Cox. He also worked for Diversified Industrial, LLC in Hanover County. He took great pride in his work and in carrying on a family legacy.
As a child, Matthew loved spending time with his family at the water, creating memories that would remain close to his heart throughout his life. His passions included classic cars, lifted trucks, heavy equipment, horses, and German Shepherds. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Though his time here was far too short, Matthew leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable memories, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Matthew’s visitation on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home- Ashland, 412 South Washington Highway, Ashland, Virginia. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, Virginia.
