Mert served in the United States Navy as a Navy Seabee. He spent his career as a mechanic for Mack Truck and Ryder Trucking Company for over 25 years. In his younger years, he was a firefighter in Hanover County. Many may remember his side business, cutting wood.
He was known as a jack of all trades, with a good sense of humor. He played multiple instruments and enjoyed farming and working on vehicles. Even though he struggled with his physical health at times, he would give anyone his last and he will be missed dearly.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Allison Jewell Stone (Marcus) and Dakota Robinson; grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Stone and Autumn Leigh McCoy Stone; siblings, Marolyn Jewell Pitts and Robert L. Jewell Jr.; and beloved grand-pets, Maddy, Max, and Mist.
