Michael Campbell Woods

Michael Campbell Woods, age 90, of Ashland, Virginia died peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Michael was born October 14, 1931 to the late Edgar and Mary Woods. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Brooke Frautschi.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Barbara Quarles Woods; sons, Michael Campbell Woods Jr. (Angela) and Durette Quarles Woods (Christie); grandchildren, Grayson Charles Woods, Catherine Larsson Woods, Skyler Garnett Woods, and Campbell Carter Woods; brother, Edgar Colin Cooper Woods Jr.; nephew, Edgar Colin Cooper Woods III (Pat); nieces, Patricia Woods Loving (Lenny) and Rebecca Woods Peters (Ken); and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was a graduate of Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA and attended Virginia Tech and Randolph-Macon College. He served the country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. After his discharge he worked for Piedmont Airlines. Mike dedicated 35 years working for what is now Truist Bank in the Richmond area. He spent over a decade coaching Little League baseball in Ashland.

As an avid outdoorsman, he really enjoyed his multiple trips with friends to the American West. Many will remember his Redbud sapling gifts. Mike would spend mornings bird watching and afternoons on the tractor. He was a proud collector of rare and silver coins and also was an amateur photographer. In his retirement, he took up golf and loved to play with his friends.

The family can receive friends between 2-4pm and again from 6-8pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va.
