Mrs. Muriel Bowers Crawley, age 96, peacefully went to be with her Lord on New Year's Day 2022, surrounded by family and friends. She was born August 15, 1925 in Caroline County, VA, the daughter of Charles Clifford and Mary Virginia Chenault Bowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all 9 siblings, and her devoted husband of 57 years, Robert Samuel Crawley of Ashland, VA. Muriel always said she was the last child to come into her family and she would be the last to leave.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Jean St. John of Ashland, numerous nieces and nephews, two longtime, special friends, Mrs. Betty Cary and Mrs. Estelle Sasser, her loving church family, a wide circle of friends in the community, and her beloved pets, Amber and Mugsy.
Muriel was a decades long member of the Ashland Church of God and a dedicated Christian with high morals who loved to share her love of God with everyone she met, whether it be through her testimony, singing, or teaching. Many will remember her special songs were the Man of Galilee, The Ninety and Nine, and Wonderful Peace.
In addition to serving the Lord, Muriel was also a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, sales clerk, LPN, and caretaker. She loved people, loved to laugh and could light up a room with her beautiful smile. Many people were blessed by her gentle, caring nature.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara Napier, her dedicated friend and caregiver, along with Synergy Home Health Care, Companion Extraordinaire, and Medi-Hospice, all of which provided excellent care, comfort, and companionship.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ashland Church of God on a date to be determined.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Ashland Church of God, St. Jude's, or the ASPCA. In addition to loving people, Muriel had a deep affection for children and animals.
