

Odis Winn, 87, of Spotsylvania, departed this life Friday, March 18, 2016 at Woodmont Center. He was preceded in death by parents Willie and Maggie (Sample) Winn, a twin brother Curtis Winn, wife of 40 years Mary Bird Winn and wife of 19 years Nancy Joan Winn. Odis was an U.S. Army and Marine Corps veteran, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10546 Post Chaplain, husband, father, pastor and a commercial driver. He served in the Korean War and received an honorable military discharge in August 1954. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior in 1964, and he was commissioned to preach the Gospel, baptize and assist in ministry duties in May 1973 by Elder Charles Thomas, Apostolic Faith Temple, Spotsylvania. He retired in July 1991, 21 years of service, with E.F. Thompson, Inc. as a Commercial Driver transporting U.S. Postal mail. Odis trusted in the Lord Jesus and enjoyed the bible, helping people, a good laugh, motorcycle riding, and his guitar. His wisdom, can-do attitude and demeanor were commendable in how he managed his life. He had a charity spirit to help anybody he could. The family treasures his godly instructions and good deed memories. His words of wisdom were: Trust in the Lord Always, Don't Die without the Lord Jesus Christ, Don't Worry, and Do the Best You Can. Fond memories of him are cherished by the family. God rest his soul in peace! He leaves to cherish his memory a brother Hansel Winn; three sons and daughters-in law, Herman, Sr. (Darlene), Odis Early (Deborah), and Hezekiah (Tammie) Winn; seven daughters and four sons-in law: Beatrice, Mary and Geraldine Winn; Shirley (Franklin) Johnson, Cynthia (Reginald) Law, Jacklen (Carl) Randall, and Helen (John) Dance; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law: Madalyn Winn, Bessie Winn, Mamie Jones, and Helen Fortune; and a host of relatives and friends. A family visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
