

Dick was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated in 1962 from St. John’s University in Queens, New York with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dick worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center as a Systems Engineer in Dahlgren, Virginia. He retired after 32 years.
A man of deep faith, he was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where he contributed to various ministries and shared his love for music as a member of the church choir.
He was an avid reader and found joy in many creative pursuits, including woodworking, painting, and drawing. Known for his craftsmanship, he also enjoyed home construction projects and spent time appreciating the beauty of nature, especially the wildlife and bird calls in his backyard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathleen Cullen; his sister, Beth; and his brothers, Tubby and Jim.
He was survived by his loving wife, Sandra Ann Cullen, and his children: Siobhan (Gary) Harlow, Bil (Terry) Cullen, Beth (Chip) Collingwood, and Kathleen (Jason) Blatt. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Emma, Claire, and Addy Cullen; Hannah Moore; Cade and Camryn Collingwood; Emerson, Owen, Isabel, Sadie, and Wyatt Blatt. He is also survived by his dear siblings Ruth Cullen, Kathleen Brady, Pat Rodgers, and Tom Cullen, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 105 S Snead St, Ashland, VA 23005. A reception will follow the Mass in the church hall. There will be a private interment at Woodland Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church – Haiti Ministry.
