It's been 5 years already.  Time on earth passes so quickly. 
Robert and I were married from 1977-1985.  We were both so young and started out with nothing but eachother.  Life brought challenges and with it, change.  Losing his mom, who was his guiding force throughout his childhood was a tough loss and
it also came at a time when he realized his parents had faced their own personal marital struggle. Everything he based his faith and foundation on was suddenly gone.  He said it just doesn't pay to be a good person, bad things happens to the best of us. He became depressed, started hanging out with a different crowd. There were many late nights and eventually he would not come home for days. Sleeping in his car, using drugs, smoking cigarettes, and infidelity. He was no longer the same person. He needed help but he refused it.  Anger and depression took hold for a time.  We seperated and divorced. He remarried and divorced within a year.  He was a kind hearted person, lending his time and effort to friends and family.  But he continued to deal with depression and was not always kind to his health.  I often wonder if he could have gotten help to deal with his depression, would he have had the life he deserved.  We harbored no anger or resentment towards eachother in the years following our divorce.  I will always love the person he was before, when we were young, idealistic and there for eachother.  There's a big oak tree at the back of his family's old home place that still bares our initials that he carved long ago. Thinking of him today and sending love and prayers that his soul is at peace.

I loved Robert's laugh, it was so genuine and deep that when he laughed you laughed with him, his passion for car's was another thing I will always remember and his love for his brothers was a true tight unbreakable bond. I could never fully put into words who he was, a persons heart and soul must be experienced first hand, but just like everyone who  loses a person in their life suddenly and unexpected, there is always the regret of not seeing them or speaking to them one last time, I wish I had been able to talk to him and his brother John at least once more but in my heart, I know  they both knew what I would have to say, family and those that touched your life is all you ever had and matter in the end. I know I will see them and my nephew Bryan again, I look forward to that reunion.
