Stephen A. Novak (Stevie, Uncle Bubba) passed away peacefully July 6, 2025 after declining health. Graduating from Hermitage High School in 1966, he worked at Safeway before entering the Coast Guard. After his military service he worked and managed several Safeway stores along with East Coast Convenience Stores. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, hunting, golfing, playing pool, and the beach. He was always the “life of the party” … dancing the entire dance floor and living life to its’ fullest. Stevie never met a stranger and was called “the Mayor of Ashland” always speaking to people along the way. He had the biggest heart, always willing to help someone in need. Being a little stubborn, he was going to live life on his terms until the very end.
He is survived by son Stephen Novak, daughters Jennifer (Tracy) Toms, Julie (Simon) Rodriguez. Grandchildren Scott and Savannah Toms, Chante Truehart, Khalid (Karisma), Kaden Peters, Manny and Jesenia Cruz. Great-grandchild Nova Thomas. Also, his twin sister Margaret Lamb, who always kept Mom on her toes, and “little sister” Cathy Childress (Bert) who was his mini me, along with other nieces and nephews. Also, a special friend who he loved dearly, Marcia West. He leaves behind his loving kitty, Darla, who stole his heart and was much company to him.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 28 from 10:00-11:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM at Nelson Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA. Burial will be private at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
