Thelma Staton Stanley

Thelma Staton Stanley (92) of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, September 27, 2016. She is preceded in death by husbands, Joe Carl Wimberly and Henry Robert Stanley; her parents, Thomas Washington and Lola Link Staton; and her devoted daughter, Alice Wimberly Miles. She is survived by three devoted daughters, Dorothy Wimberly Anderson (Bud), Kathy Stanley Grizzard (Rob) and Robin Stanley Carroll (Lou); son-in-law, Lucky Miles; grandchildren, Melissa Miles Christy (Todd); Deborah Miles Mills (Billy); Roth Henry, Meredith Catherine, Margo and Scott Carroll; Ryan Henry Cowell, Lindsey and Kaitlyn Grizzard; great-grandchildren Canaan and Cody Mills. Born April 3, 1924 in Union County, NC, Thelma was the eleventh of sixteen siblings. She made a difference in the lives of others with her gift for laughter and a passion for fun. Visitation will be Friday, September 30 from 6-8 p.m. with a service Saturday, October 1 at 2 p.m., both at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA.
