

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lorri Marie Epperson, his partner in life for 38 years. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Catharine “Dee” Cann, and his niece and nephew, Malia and Kai’ea. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Catharine and Arthur Epperson.
Jake was a Chief Systems Engineer for the Virginia Department of Education. His intelligence, precision, and problem-solving mind earned him deep respect from his colleagues. Jake approached his work with the same quiet diligence that defined his life, always striving to make things better and to help others succeed.
A man of loyalty and devotion, Jake lived a life rooted in routine, friendship, and simple pleasures. He found great joy on the golf course, where many of his closest friendships were formed over time spent on the fairways. A golf member for more than 40 years, his weekly games and post-round beers became a cherished ritual, filled with laughter, stories, and camaraderie.
Jake will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to know him. His steady presence, easy smile, and unwavering kindness will remain in the hearts of all who loved him.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA, on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 6–8 p.m. A celebration of life gathering will follow the next day, Thursday, December 4th, from 3–4:30 p.m., at the Hanover Golf Club, 14314 Country Club Dr., Ashland, VA.
