

Walter Garrett Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on January 19, 1938, in Essex County, Virginia, to the late Ernest Linwood and Mary Byrd Jones. His life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and service to his family and community.
Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest "Ernie" Jones Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Jones, and a loving family that includes his son, Craig Jones and wife, Shelby, and stepchildren, Renee Miller and husband, Jeff, Tina Roberson, Kevin Walsh, Keith Walsh and wife, Laura, and Karen Starke, as well as his sister, Mary Spicer. Walter's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Elijah Walter Jones, Brian Roberson, Eric Roberson and his wife, Renee, Ashley Epling and her husband, Bryan, Brooke Walsh, Brandon Walsh, Matt Walsh and his wife, Kyleigh, Katelyn Starke, and Kasey Starke, alongside his great-grandchildren, Emma Roberson, Kylee Epling, and Greer Walsh.
Walter worked as a bus mechanic and later retired from Firestone Tire. He was a devoted member of Hunton Baptist Church in Glen Allen, where his faith and kindness were evident to all who knew him.
Walter loved gardening, taking trips with Jean to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania’s Amish Country, and, most of all, spending time helping his neighbors, friends, and family. He was a man of quiet strength, compassion, and generosity—always willing to lend a hand or share a smile.
Relatives and friends are invited to Walter's visitation at Hunton Baptist Church, 11660 Greenwood Rd., Glen Allen, VA, on Tuesday, November 11th, from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 AM. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be held at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, VA, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunton Baptist Church or 28:19 Ministries in his honor.
Walter Garrett Jones will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we remember the laughter, the love, and the countless ways he enriched our lives.
