Wesley Shawn Smith

September 26, 1977 – August 24, 2026

Wesley "Wes" Shawn Smith, a beloved husband, father, Pappy, son, brother, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2026.

Wes was born on September 26, 1977. From the very beginning, he lived life in his own way, marching to the beat of his own drum and leaving an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

If there is one thing we can all agree on when we think of Wes, it is this: he had a heart bigger than words could ever describe. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back and the last penny in his pocket to a stranger. He never needed much for himself, but he wanted to make sure everyone around him was taken care of.

Wes had a gift for making people feel important. He could walk into a room and somehow become its light—joking, laughing, telling stories, and making everyone feel like they belonged. His humor could fill a room, but it was his heart that people will remember most.

He loved being outdoors. Fishing, hunting, working with his hands, and creating things were some of the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. Wes was a true craftsman. There was something special about watching him take an idea and turn it into something with his own two hands. He had a way of figuring things out, fixing things, building things, and making things better.

But above everything else, Wes loved his family.

His family was his greatest pride and joy. He treasured the time he had with each and every one of them and never took those moments for granted. He was their protector—the person who wanted to make sure the people he loved were safe, cared for, and loved. His family knew they could count on him.

Wes is survived by his loving wife, Valerie, who shared his life and his heart; his children, Devin (Sarah) and Brianna (Thomas); and his five beloved grandchildren, Connor, Gannon, Everleigh, Gracie, and Liam, who were truly the loves of his life.

Being a Pappy was one of Wesley's greatest joys. His grandchildren had a special place in his heart, and the love he had for them was immeasurable. They will carry his love, his laughter, his lessons, and his memory with them for the rest of their lives.

He is also survived by his parents, Rosemary and David; his brother, David(JR); and his sister, Amanda, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Wesley was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Deborah Bacon.

There are some people who simply cannot be replaced. They leave behind more than memories—they leave pieces of themselves in the people they loved. Wes left those pieces everywhere.

Although our hearts are broken by his sudden absence, we can find comfort knowing that Wesley's love did not leave with him. It remains in every person he touched, every life he made brighter, and every memory that will be carried forward.
