Adam Harold Kenneth Kessler of Fife Lake, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2016 at age 80 with his wife Helen at his side. Predeceased by sons Clinton and Addison, parents John and Annie, sister Edna (Lawrence) Lutz, sister-in-law Alice (Louis) Faucher, nephews Gary Lutz and Dale Johnson, brothers-in-law Steve Yacucha and John MacDonald, Adam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Kessler (nee Dellinger), one daughter Gwen (Jim) Hogg, one grandson Shawn Kessler, sisters and brothers: Irene Yacucha, Clara (Frank) Johnston, Pearl MacDonald, Harvey Kessler, John Kessler, Ben (Linda) Kessler and George Kessler, sister-in-law Marion (Mel) Spagrud, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Adam was born February 29, 1936 on the family farm at Fife Lake, the fifth child of John and Anne Kessler with four older sisters (Irene, Clara, Edna and Pearl). Being the first born son in the family it was a great delight for his dad. Into the family were born four more boys (Harvey, John, Ben and George). Adam was the middle child of 9 brothers and sisters and often referred to himself as “the hub” of the family. Adam attended school at Delightsome Valley which was a 3 mile walk, horseback, buggy or sleigh ride from home. As with so many young men in that time, Adam quit school in grade 8 to help on the farm and many tasks associated with farm life. Adam was truly a farmer at heart. He did other jobs as well such as driving a gravel truck and was a grader operator in the Big Beaver R.M. Through community socials, events and dances that Adam attended, he met and fell in love with his life’s partner, Helen. They were married December 26, 1957 during the Christmas Holidays as Helen was teaching school in Coronach. Together Adam and Helen were to bring three children to their home: Gwen their oldest, and Clinton and Addison their sons. Tragically, Clinton and Addison were killed in a car accident in 1984. Even through these most difficult times Adam and Helen continued to support each other and their family while running a successful farm. Adam’s legacy is in his daughter Gwen, a successful nurse, and her son Shawn, a talented chef and always the apple of grandpa’s eye. In 2009 Gwen married Jim Hogg so now a son-in-law was added to their family. Adam’s talents did not stop at farming grain. He raised cows and pigs as well. He was an achiever and he made his dreams come true. One of his many accomplishments was the construction of a cattle shed on his farm that stood 80 x 160 feet capable of housing his herd of cattle and 10,000 square bales. He dreamed of building an indoor swimming pool on the farm and made these dreams come true. Adam liked to dance, he liked a good party and he liked to visit. He knew all the history of the south country. Adam liked to play cards and he liked to win. Another chapter begins when Adam and Helen moved off the farm to Regina in 1996. For many years Adam and Helen travelled extensively in their motor home. During their travels they welcomed many visitors for pancakes. Adam was an expert pancake maker and served dozens of them accompanied by Helen’s homemade chokecherry syrup. Due to declining health Adam moved into the Coronach Health Centre in 2014 where he continued to enjoy visiting with family, old friends and neighbours that he knew for so many years. A Prayer Vigil was held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Rockglen Thursday, March 31, and a Funeral Mass on Friday, April 1, 2016. The Celebrant was Father Juanito Vargas, Con-celebrant was Father Peter Pham. Urn Bearer was grandson Shawn Kessler. Interment was at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations were gratefully accepted for the St. John’s R.C. Cemetery Fund or the Coronach and Area Health Care Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia.
