He grew up on the family farm, north of Viceroy and attended Surprise Valley School. Alvin married Marilyn Selberg October 27, 1962 and they began a life together farming and raising cattle. In the beginning Alvin farmed with his father, Harold, then later he farmed alongside his son, Wayne. Alvin and Marilyn enjoyed being a part of the community, having their children involved in 4-H, swimming and baseball games.
Alvin and Marilyn really enjoyed having their granddaughters grow up close by. The girls remember that the door to Papa Alvin’s was always open, the homemade play-dough and watching cartoons, Grandpa’s snacks of lady fingers, fig bars or apricots, and especially sharing the best stories of the past. He was so proud of his children, granddaughters and great-grandson.
Alvin is survived by his son Wayne and daughter Melanie; granddaughters Brooke, Brianna and Sabrina and great-grandson, Roman; his sisters Joyce Alm and Jean Dahlman. Alvin was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (nee Selberg) (Feb 6, 2005), daughter Sheila (March 1965), brother Walter, brothers-in-law Walt Alm and Rodney Dahlman.
Funeral Service was held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Ross Funeral Chapel. Anette Pryce and Gary K. Miller presided. Granddaughter, Brianna shared tribute to Grandpa. Pallbearers were: Wayne Simpson, Brianna Simpson, Rod Weinmeister, Blair Alm, Braydon Paradon and Tyrone Paradon.
