January 26, 1927 – September 26, 2020
September 26, 2020, Audrey Ruth Breus passed away peacefully in the Grasslands Health Centre at Rockglen, Saskatchewan.
Audrey was born on a small farm near Esterhazy, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1927 to Mary and Alex Park. She was the oldest of four children. She attended Red Path School in Esterhazy from grade 1 to 12. From grade 9 to 12 Audrey worked part time at Clement's Clothing store. After high school graduation she took nurse's training in Yorkton.
In 1951 Audrey married Demetrius "Meter" Breus and homesteaded near Yarbo, Saskatchewan where they raised three daughters. Audrey was a farmer's wife toiling alongside her husband for over 50 years. Throughout her life, Audrey and her family enjoyed the fruits of the love and labour and rewards of growing large vegetable gardens and various berry plants and fruits. She returned to her nursing career in her 30's working at the Esterhazy Care home for a couple of years and then working at Saint Anthony Hospital in Esterhazy until she retired from nursing at 62 years old in 1988.
Demetrius and Audrey stopped farming, when they were 78, and moved from their farm home into Esterhazy in 2005. After Meter's passing, in 2011, Audrey moved to Daisy Hill Manor in Esterhazy where she lived until she was 88. In 2015 she moved to Coronach to be closer to her oldest daughter, Charmaine and family, where she enjoyed living in South Winds Manor.
Audrey was passionate about many types of needlework and spent countless hours in the winter months creating textile crafts with her hands to gift to her family members. In her later years she enjoyed time colouring as well as doing jigsaw and word puzzles.
Our Mom was an extraordinary person, exhibiting compassion and empathy to all she met. She will be missed by anyone who knew her and her caring ways.
The family is eternally grateful for the care and friendship of all Audrey's friends and neighbours throughout her life. Our family also wishes to extend their appreciation to the exceptional nurses at the Coronach Health Centre and the Grasslands Health Centre for their kindness and compassion during the last few weeks of Audrey's life journey.
Audrey was predeceased by her partner of 60 years, Meter Breus; her sister, Velma Vaughan and brother Ewart Park. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughters Charmaine (Murray) Setrum of Coronach, SK, Daphne Breus of Cranbrook, BC and Marcia (Warren) Campbell, Esterhazy, SK and sister Patricia McDowell, Medicine Hat, AB.
