With family at his side, August passed away March 5, 2026 at the Radville Marian Health Centre.
Born in Viceroy, Saskatchewan January 22, 1947 to August and Marie (Lohmeyer) Unterreiner. He was the youngest of the four children-Barbara (Barb), Robert (Rob) and Marilyn. He grew up in Horizon, Saskatchewan where the Unterreiner family owned and operated the gas and hardware store. He went to school in Horizon but left early to go to work. He lived in Bengough, Saskatchewan where he found the love of his life, Deanna Dersch. He attended trade school in Moose Jaw, where he earned his journeyman carpentry certificate while working under Fess Albers. August and Deanna were married in Saskatoon on June 27, 1969. They moved to Calgary Alberta, where he worked construction and they started a family. They had 3 girls-Shauna Marie in 1971, Tara Lynn in 1972 and Michelle Doreen in 1974. In 1975 they moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. August continued to work construction in and around Saskatoon until summer 1981 when they moved back to their hometown of Bengough to start their own construction business A.D. Contracting. August built and renovated many homes and construction projects in Bengough and surrounding areas. He mentored some new apprentices into carpentry over the years, sharing with them his vast knowledge and skills. He and Deanna opened at restaurant in Bengough called Grandma Dea’s for a few years and as he continued to do construction on the side. He also was on the Bengough Volunteer Fire department for many years doing all the things but he really enjoyed running the water truck. He never really gave up his business but did slow down and did some consulting and lending of wisdom, tools and supplies over the last few years. Auggie was known for his gift of the gab and his BS stories that would happen over many cups of coffee and beers. He enjoyed hanging out and socializing at the local tavern, his “Tea” room and the shop where he had many friends, family and neighbours he would visit with. After almost 54 years of marriage, he lost his wife Deanna in 2023. He continued on and enjoyed his family and friends until his health declined and lost his short, but brave battle with cancer and he passed away peacefully in Radville Hospital.
