OBITUARY

Donna Richards

February 13, 1924February 3, 2021

Donna Orwilda Richards (nee Batty) was born February 13, 1924 and left us February 3, 2021, just ten days shy of her 97th birthday. She will be missed by sister Marg Volker, brother Bill Batty, children Mark Richards and Susan Lock and their families, as well as her close friends. As one of eleven children of Erie and William Batty, her childhood was busy and no small preparation for her early career as a school teacher. She married Roy F. (Mac) Richards on November 3, 1943 and they kept each other company for nearly 62 years. Donna was an avid gardener and was justifiably proud of her vegetables, flowers and fruit trees. After Mac's passing, she busied herself with baking for friends and family and visiting with her neighbours. She always made sure the bird feeders were filled, as she loved watching them. Donna saw many changes over the course of her long life, and now has moved on to new adventures. Those wishing to honour her memory are asked to make a donation in Donna’s name to a charity of their choice. Private Service will be held. Expressions of sympathy for the Richards family may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com.

We are so sorry, Mark, Susan, and your families, to hear of your mother/grandmother Donna leaving us. Condolences to you, Uncle Bill and Aunt Margaret and your families. I have many fond memories of spending summers in the Assiniboia area and helping out on the farms, and having a lot of fun too! I will always remember Donna busy in her garden; that seems to be where one could find her most days. I also have not forgotten Donna squeezing a few extra dollars out to allow my brother and I to take home a gift after one of our extended visits -- she did not have to do that but found a way. We see trees can be planted in her name and we will most certainly do that since growing things seemed to be a big part of her life!

All our love,
Richard (Dick), Bonnie, Diane, and Michael Carr

Deepest condolences on behalf of our mom, Helen Domes and our family. Donna was a good neighbour at the cottages and became a good friend. She shared her love of bird watching with our dad and always had a friendly greeting for us all. She will be remembered kindly.

Mark and I were best pals through high school and beyond - to this very day. I spent many weekends enjoying Mac and Donna's hospitality on the farm and hanging out with the Richards' and Batty clan. SO many years ago - but I remember the beautiful garden, yard and fruit trees that Donna took great pride in.

Their hospitality carried on after I met Janet - our visits were too rare but we always enjoyed the time together. Donna and Mac always had a way of making you feel like one of the family - they were very special people.

Hugs and condolences to Mark, Susie, Stan, all the kids and grandkids.
