Dorothy Meston

November 14, 1916December 19, 2020

Dorothy Mary Meston (Aust), eldest resident of Bengough, SK, passed away at the Bengough Health Center on December 19, 2020 at age 104 years. Dorothy was born on the Aust homestead on November 14, 1916 to Christopher and Alice Aust. She grew up on the family farm south of Bengough on the north side of the Big Muddy. She had two older brothers, Roy and Red. She helped with all the things a farm girl did in those days. Dorothy married Alexander Meston (known as Sandy) June 2, 1944 and soon started to raise a family of five children. They resided in Big Beaver and ran a dairy, dray and delivered mail. In 1946, they moved to Horizon where Sandy worked in a hardware store, elevator and B.A. business. The family moved to Sybouts where he worked in the salt plant. Sadly, Sandy died January 17, 1955 due to throat cancer. Dorothy and the children moved to Bengough. Dorothy worked as a waitress, cleaned houses and employed at the Twilight Centennial Home from 1968 until retiring in 1985. She resided in her own home till after her 100th birthday. She liked to play cards, slot machines and bingo. She loved her visits, including a shot of whiskey, with family and friends and travelling to Vegas, Disneyland, British Columbia and Alberta. Nothing made her happier than to see her grandchildren walk through the doors bringing a trail of greats (as she called them) behind them. Predeceased by parents Christopher and Alice Aust, husband Alexander, son Murray, great-grandsons – Riley Meston, Ty Currall and Edwin Perrin; brothers Roy (Lena) Aust and Red (Clara) Aust, numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her family: Son - Mickey & Joanne Meston of Stettler, AB; Mark and Wendy – Dillon, Kyle Meston, Kim and Tracey - Dustin, Shianne Klatt, Devon and daughter Emma Meston. Daughter - Sharon & Norman Ottesen of Bengough; Audrey and Marlo - Kim, Sarah, Lily, Ruby, Louis Thue, Kyla and Campbell and Lenni Antonini, Della and Larry Heggs - Brendan, Brittiany Heggs, Ashley Heggs and Walid Svedahl, Christine and Dale - Shaina, Keanna and Brooklyn Gee. Son - Fred & Marlene Meston of Bengough; Trinda and Derrick - Brett and Kate, Rebecca, Nicholas, Mathew Bookout, Brian and Michelle - Madison, Cooper and Spencer Meston. Daughter - Kathy & Archie Sabin of Medicine Hat, AB; Lisa and Glenn Newby - Adelita, Tyler and James Gebhardt, Amber and Cassidy Hudson, Michaela, Darcy Newby, Lee and Rodney and Natalie Perrin, Lynne and Scott - Jessica and Morgan Brown, Lori and Dennis, Ethan Currall. Fred and Marlene Meston and families. We offer our sincere sympathy on the death of your mother. From the obituary we read, she had worked hard before a 35 year retirement. May you treasure the wonderful memories you had with her.

Sending our condolences to Dorothy's family. She was an amazing lady. I delivered meals to her and she was always very thankful for the meals and I was one of the Bingo crew at the home. She always made us laugh and one of the residents that didn't really need the help, except once in a while she would miss a number but I think that was more her eyesight than anything else. She is going to be missed by many.
Hugs to the family.

My deepest sympathy to Dorothy’s extended family. She and I worked together at the Twilight Centennial Home. Dorothy called a spade a spade all the time I knew her. She could and regularly did work circles around most people. I never knew her to leave a task uncompleted. I really liked Dorothy. She always spoke when you saw her on the street or at an event, always had time.
It’s not very hard to believe she was 104. Rest well, Dorothy, you have more than earned it.
Linda Hagen, Regina.
