

Elvin Clayton Rasmussen, born August 19, 1921 passed away peacefully in his home, with family at his side, on October 29, 2010 at the age of 89. He leaves to cherish his memory, Deloris, his wife of 66 years, and their 6 children: Lorne (Beryl) Rasmussen, Sharon (Vern) Ermel, Donna (Kirk) McNab, Barry Rasmussen, Jocelyn Rasmussen, Kenneth (Lana) Rasmussen, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers Glenn (Cecile) Rasmussen, Roger Rasmussen, and one sister Yvonne (Delmar) Dosch, sisters-in-law Leona Rasmussen, Lillian Rasmussen and Bonnie Rasmussen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Sheryle Anne in infancy, his loving parents, five brothers: Maurice, Adrian (Ginny), Delbert (Irene), Clay, Gerald, and three sisters, Violet (Bert) Andre, Gladys (Edwin) Kabrud, and Audrey in her childhood, sister-in-law Joyce Rasmussen and several nephews and nieces.
Elvin was the 5th of 12 children born to Axel and Aline Rasmussen on the family homestead south of Assiniboia, at Maxstone, Saskatchewan. He married his wife Deloris on February 22, 1944. They farmed and ranched for 55 years, sharing many memories of happiness with their children, friends and family. His son Ken and family continue his legacy on the farm. Elvin was devoted to God and active in his church, served in various capacities in the community, enjoyed bull sales and rodeos, watching sports, especially baseball, on TV, and the many hours spent playing cards with family and friends.
Funeral Service was held in the Assiniboia Alliance Church, November 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Lawrence Hahn and Pastor Greg Dermody officiated. Pallbearers were Grandsons: Gerrud Rasmussen, Jeremy Ermel, Joshua Ermel, Justin Ermel, Barret McNab, and Benjamin McNab. Music was provided by Jocelyn Rasmussen. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. A memorial donation in Elvin’s name can be made to “A Bible College Scholarship Fund” administrated by the Assiniboia Alliance Church.
