On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Katherine Faye Sillers, age 91 of Regina, Sask., formerly of Bengough, Sask., passed away peacefully at Pioneer Village.
Faye was born in Woodrow, Sask. on August 18, 1921 to George and Ettie Eisnor, middle sister to Stuart and Gwen. Her father owned and ran a grocery store and her mother was active in the church choir as the leader and organist. This was to become a huge influence in Faye's life as she was a steadfast church goer and choir member in Bengough. Upon completing Grade 12, Faye and her friend Milly Turner (Boynton) set off for Moose Jaw to attend Normal School. Faye taught school in McCord and Melaval for the first four years of her career. Her friend Milly, who was teaching at a rural school just outside of Bengough, phoned to say that there was a vacancy at the Bengough School. That is how Faye arrived in Bengough in 1944. Soon after her arrival, Faye met Robbie Sillers who had just returned from training in the Air Force. They were married on April 22, 1946 in Woodrow. Faye and Robbie built a new home in 1953 where they continued to reside until 2001. Robbie passed away in January, 2001 and in the fall, Faye moved to Regina to be close to her family. During her years in Bengough, Faye continued her teaching career off and on and was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, United Church Women, the United Church choir and she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved helping provide entertainment for the Twilight Home taking part in skits and sing songs. She could be counted on to help out anyway she could. She was a great volunteer in the community. Faye cherished her many good friends some of whom have described her as kind and caring, so much fun, special, elegant and gracious. She was all of these things and so much more.
Faye will be dearly missed by her son Doug (Evelyn) Sillers of Avonlea and their children Christy (Neil) Kuffner of Avonlea, Tammy of Regina, Rob (Brooke) of Regina and Andrew of Avonlea, great-grandchildren Matthew, Mackenzie and Dawson Kuffner; her daughter Judy (Gary) Sykes of Regina and their children Stephen of Pembrooke, Ontario, Greg (Tracey) Sykes and Mike (Jan) Stobbs of Regina, great-grandchildren Naomi and Emily Sykes, Aden and Parker Stobbs; her daughter Cathy (Steven) Ripplinger of Regina and their children Aryn (Roy) Toews, Jenna Ripplinger and Kelsey Ripplinger of Regina, great-grandchildren Indeka and Avista Toews and sister-in-law Doris Eisnor of Regina as well as several nieces and nephews. Faye was predeceased by her husband Robbie, granddaughter Jillian Ripplinger, siblings, infant sister Willis Eisnor, Stuart Eisnor and Gwen Conroy.
