

George Young of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan passed away February 23, 2017. Predeceased by his parents George and Elsie Young, sisters Lila Johnson and Joyce Knox, brothers-in-law Mervyn Wittig, Murray Knox and Earl Johnson, and great niece Kyra Broeder, George is survived by his brother Jack (Mary) Young, sisters Muriel Wittig and Margaret (Gordon) Broeder, and many nieces and nephews. George was born November 22, 1917 on the family homestead at Stonehenge, Saskatchewan and farmed his whole life. He not only witnessed the many historical changes in farm methods, he lived them and he worked hard to stay up with all the advancements. He was the farm’s “Mr. Fix It” and would work in the shop making repairs and improvements to all the equipment. In his younger years he travelled to various destinations around the world including Australia and Europe. George was a generous man who served on many committees and boards. He also donated to many charities and organizations. He had a love and respect for nature and wildlife and could often be found hiking around the sloughs and pastures. He enjoyed visiting and will be missed by everyone who knew him. A memorial service was held March 7, 2017 at St. George’s Parish Hall in Assiniboia with Les Wilcock facilitating. A Tribute was given by George’s nephew, David Young. Urn Bearer was David Young.
