1920-2013
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Germaine Pilsner. Germaine passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Grasslands Health Centre on February 19, 2013.
Mom was born on the family farm in the Lisieux district on June 6, 1920 and was the sixth child in a family of 10. She was predeceased by her parents Georges and Albertine Prefontaine, her loving husband Jacob in 1998, sons-in-law Murray Anklewich and Edward Heagy both in 2010, great-grandson Kyle Wiggins in 2005, three brothers, three sisters and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Germaine is survived by her son; Dennis Pilsner, her daughters; Shirley Heagy, children Kevin (Pam) Heagy and Leanne Pituley; Penny Anklewich, children Dawn (Scott) Gerla and Scott (Jill) Anklewich; Vivian (Richard) Wiggins, children Steve (Jen) Wiggins, Shawn Wiggins and Michael Wiggins; Sandra (Randy) Clark, children Robert (Angie) Clark and Crystina Clark; 16 great-grandchildren and sisters Irene (George) Marcenko, Ida Prefontaine and Yvonne Knops and sister-in-law Mildred Prefontaine.
Mom worked for a while at the Red Cross Hospital on the hill in Rockglen. Her duties included cooking and laundry but she was occasionally called on to assist with delivering babies. Mom also cooked at the Scout Lake Hotel which was where she met Dad. Mom and Dad began their married life in Scout Lake before settling on their farm south of Rockglen. Mom worked alongside Dad in the fields, milking cows and feeding the animals. She grew a huge garden and spent many hours canning and freezing the vegetables. There was always enough to feed us for the entire winter. Mom also sewed our clothes and knitted us all toques, mitts and sweaters. Mom was a great cook and provided meals for many friends and family in the area, there was always plenty even when extra showed up.
In 1979 they retired and moved to Rockglen. Mom went back to work at the Rockglen Union Hospital and continued her career of cooking and laundry duties. Throughout her life she always loved cooking and knitting but her true passion was fishing trips with Dad, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and having coffee with friends and family. Mom was a devoted Catholic and served for over 50 years in the Catholic Women’s League at St. John’s Parish in Rockglen.
We were blessed to have our Mom with us for over 92 years and we will miss her dearly.
Prayer Vigil was held Thursday, February 21, 2013 and Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, February 22, 2013, both services held at St. John’s R.C. Church, Rockglen, SK.
