Gertrude 'Gerty' Florence Pilsner

Gertrude (Gerty) Florence Pilsner, long time resident of Rockglen, SK, passed away peacefully on MondayTuesday, February 26, 2013 at the age of 90 years.

Gerty was born on October 26, 1922 to William and Gertrude Brewer in Saint Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands. She came to Canada with her family in 1928. They settled in Saskatchewan at the Coal Creek Colony after living in the village of Major for a year. She married Joseph Pilsner on August 24, 1944 in Rockglen. Gerty touched many. She was stylish, feisty and had a zest for life. Gerty loved to travel. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family - playing cards, having tea and socializing at the center. Gerty took special pride in knitting crotcheting blankets for her family membersand friends. She loved flowers. Gerty made an impression on everyone she met. Her spirit, her passion and the love and warmth that she shared with everyone in her life will be greatly missed.

Predeceased by her husband Joseph; two brothers, William and John (Lorna); brother-in-law Howard Scarrow, Gerty is survived by her sons Richard (Aileen) and Barry; six grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren, one brother Reverend Doug Brewer, two sisters Dorothy Scarrow and Margaret (Arvo) Laspa, , as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Rockglen, SK. Father Andrew Pawlowicz, Celebrant. Tribute given by granddaughter, Tricia Goffin. Urn Bearer was special friend, Doreen Griffin. Richard and Barry lit the Pascal Candle, Readers were David & Theresa Pilsner, Trudy Thiele and Dana Giraudier, Landon Giraudier, Donald Pilsner and Jarred Pilsner presented the offerings and the music ministry was led by Gina Stewart. Interment to follow at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date. Donations in Memory of Gerty may be made to the New Horizons Drop-in-Centre, Rockglen, SK.
