

Gordon Hesterman, of Assiniboia, SK, longtime resident of Ormiston, SK, passed away peacefully September 9, 2013 in Assiniboia, SK. Gordon Hilding Hesterman was born November 20, 1930 in the Horizon district, second of six children born to Hilding & Mary Hesterman.
Gordon attended Creemore School. He then worked for a few years at the A-7 Ranch in Alberta where he made life-long friends. Gordon and brother Martin farmed for a couple years. Then Gordon worked as a service man for J.I. Case Co., followed by a long career at the Ormiston Mining Co., all the while he also ranched. He raised Charlais cattle for several years, working his way to a pure bred herd. Gordon always enjoyed hunting and fishing and once he could no longer do it he enjoyed telling and listening to hunting stories. He also liked horses and enjoyed a good rodeo and also a good poker game.
Gordon was predeceased by sister Edith Malesh (1995), brother Martin (2004), and brother-in-law Bob George (2013). Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gloria (Ponto), five children: Betty (Tim) Sherwin, Keith (Marnel), Doug (Tracy), Bruce (Tracy), Kathy (Russell) Erskine, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters Hulda George and Grace (David) Robertson, brother Larry (Pat) Hesterman, sister-in-law Jean Hesterman, brother-in-law Dan Malesh as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the Ormiston Community Hall, Ormiston, SK. Pastor Bill Luther and Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiated. Tribute was given by son, Keith. Urn bearer was grandson Michael Sherwin. Interment followed at Memorial Gardens, Regina, SK. Donations in Memory of Gordon may be made to St. Paul’s United Church Memorial Fund, Assiniboia, SK.
