Jeanne d'arc Patricia Lalonde

Jeanne was in good health until she suffered a stroke on July 6, 2014. She passed away with her family at her side in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on July 14, 2014 at the age of 88. Jeanne was born on March 17, 1926 in the town of Willow Bunch to Euclide and Elizabeth Bruneau. She attended school at Dutch Hallow, near Willow Bunch, SK. After school she worked at the European Hotel before meeting the love of her life, Armand Lalonde. On November 3, 1948 they married and shortly after started their family in St Victor. In 1960 they moved to Willow Bunch, where Jeanne drove school bus for over twenty years and house-cleaned in her spare time to contribute to the family income. In 1972, Armand and Jeanne started the A & J Drive Inn in Willow Bunch where they worked together to build a successful business for many years. In 1997, she suffered the loss of her husband, Armand and shortly after moved into Valley View Cottages in Willow Bunch. It was here that she enjoyed independent living while at the same time enjoying the company of her many friends in the area. She especially enjoyed time spent at the local senior center playing cards and having coffee with her many friends. Jeanne was known for her quick wit and lively personality. She loved her name, and she referred to herself as “French Irish” as she was born on St. Patrick’s day. She loved Frogs and had a large collection of them.

Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Euclide and Elizabeth Bruneau, an infant son at birth, Omer (1962), husband, Armand (1997), son, Raymond (2006), grandson, Mark Lalonde (1997) granddaughter, Margaret Hodgson (1997), half brother Adrien Bruneau and half sister Yvonne Thorhaug.

Jeanne leaves behind her son, Fernie (Pauline) Lalonde, daughter, Bernadette (Omer) Lemieux, twin daughter, Pauline (Terry) Verhaeghe, twin son, Paul (Julie) Lalonde, twin son, Larry (Lissa) Lalonde, twin daughter, Laurette Lalonde, daughter, Julie (Merle) Hodgson, daughter-in-law, Viv (Ray) Lalonde, 32 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three future great-great-grandchildren, three sisters: Berry Bruneau of Calgary, Alberta, Gabrielle “Gibby” Marcil of Moose Jaw, Sk and Rachelle Delorme of Altona, Manitoba; sisters-in-law Yolande (Pete) Therrien of Assiniboia, Sk, Anita Lalonde of Meadow Lake, Sk. and Florence Selby of Regina Sk; and their families.

Prayer Service was held July 18, 2014 in the Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, Sk. Funeral Mass was held July 19, 2014 in the St. Roman Catholic Church in Willow Bunch, Sk. Father Joy Montiague celebrant. Tribute was given by her granddaughter, Lana. Urn Bearers were Justin Lalonde, Tyler Lalonde, Chance Hodgson, Terrance Hodgson, Dustin Verhaeghe, and Darin Lemieux. Interment in the St. Victor Cemetery, St. Victor, Sk. Masses or donations in memory of Jeanne may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
