Kay Aussant (Barnes) passed away peacefully at the Coronach Health Care Centre on August 16, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert. We give thanks for the life and love that God gave to Kay over the last 102 years. She is the last of that generation in her family, even out-living some nephews and nieces.
Kay came to the Coronach area in 1933 to teach and it was here that she met and married Albert Aussant. They had three boys: Allan (Colette Bonneau), born in 1938, Jim, born in 1944 and Robert (Ila McIntee), born in 1947. They had five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Kay survived the 1918 flu and went on to work with horses in the fields, teach school, and in 1956 she took over the grocery store. She took in her mother when her Dad died and looked after her for 17 years. Kay worked hard all her life, doing what needed to be done. She loved to bake and cook as well as gardening, letter writing, reading, knitting, cards, visiting and travel.
A special thank you to the Doctors and entire staffs of the Coronach and Bengough Health Care Centres during this very stressful period.
A Service of Remembrance was held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 with Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiating. The tribute was given by her son, Jim. Urn bearer was Trefflé Aussant.
Interment was at the Coronach Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kay may be made to the Coronach United Church or to the Coronach Health Care Centre – Handi Van Fund, Coronach, SK. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.rossfuneralservice.com.
