Mrs. Loretta Spies
July 15, 1925 – February 5, 2021
Loretta Spies On February 5th, 2020, Loretta Spies passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Grasslands Health Centre in Rockglen, SK. Loretta Spies (nee Weisgerber) was born in Vibank, SK on July 15th, 1925. She grew up in the Diamond Stone district. After high school she went to Moose Jaw to Normal school and received a teaching certificate and taught school for three years. She married Paul Spies April 20th, 1948 in Christ the King parish in Fife Lake, SK. They raised five children Douglas, Lorne, Allen, Michael and Louise. They farmed in the Wheat Bench area south of Rockglen until moving to Rockglen in 1971. In 1974 she worked for Dr. Unarket as a receptionist and worked for him for the next seventeen years. Paul and Loretta moved into The Rolling Hills Lodge in 2006. Paul passed away in November of 2007; Loretta continued to live at the Lodge until December 2019 when she moved into the Grasslands Health Centre where she remained until her passing. Loretta enjoyed the company of her family and friends, she was a member of the C.W.L for over 50 years and held many executive positions locally. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and loved her garden. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participating in baseball, curling, hockey and gym sports. She bowled for some years and enjoyed socializing over a cup of coffee. Loretta is predeceased by her parents George and Therese Weisgerber, husband Paul, four brothers, six sisters, four infant siblings, four sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law and grandson Derek Spies. She is survived by her children: Douglas (Lyla Kuan), Lorne, Allen (Darcy Mattson), Michael (Louise Gagnon), Louise (Keith Koller); her grandchildren Amy (Jerome Frechette), Brandy (Trinity Fisher), Brett (Lisa Schmidt), Loren (Cam Schafer) and Emily Koller; her great-grandchildren Elize and Dominic Frechette, and Kadence and Karys Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. Prayer Service will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm and Funeral Mass celebrated Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm, both services held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Rockglen, SK. Father Clement Amofah celebrant. Interment to follow at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Masses may be said or donations may be made to the Rockglen Health Care Auxiliary Memorial Fund for the Grasslands Health Centre, Box 338, Rockglen, S0H 3R0. I was one of her students when she taught at Wheat Bench School. Thanks for sharing the video of her funeral mass so we could be there in spirit.
