It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Marlene Mellquist (Ludtke) passed away peacefully with her husband and children by her side on Thursday, October 7, 2021, in Moose Jaw Hospital at the age of 64.
Marlene was born on February 26, 1957 and lived all of her life in Limerick, SK. She grew up with her parents Elsie and Wes and had a very close relationship with them and her brothers. She married her high school sweetheart, Gord and they were just shy of celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary on October 9th. Marlene loved spending time with her children, Stacey, Ryan and Shannon, and probably even more so loved being with her grandchildren. The small everyday moments of cuddles, making pancakes, playing cards, or watching a movie with her grandkids brought her and us all such joy.
Marlene was an integral part of the community and worked for many years at Dave's Home General Store. She greeted everyone with a smile, loved to cook and made the best food, and spearheaded many fundraisers and events, including being a major contributor to the creation of the Limerick Centennial Park. Marlene would have done anything for anyone and loved to make people feel cared for, whether it was her family, friends or someone who came into the store or she met on a trip. Marlene was a beautiful and kind woman who loved a great Elvis song. All will truly miss Marlene.
Marlene will be lovingly cherished by her beloved husband Gord, three children: Stacey (Kenton) and grandkids Brittany, Carter and Emmett; Ryan (Brandy) and grandkids Ashlynn, Riley and a baby on the way; and Shannon (Ryan) and grandkids Daxton and Colt; mother Elsie and sister to Terry and Murray (Susan), daughter-in-law to Glen and sister-in-law to Gayle and Jeff, Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Wes, mother-in-law Thelma, and her beloved dog Yogi. She had many friends near and far.
A celebration of Marlene's life was held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Limerick Community Hall, Limerick, SK, officiated by Les Wilcock. Urn Bearer was her husband Gord. Tribute was given by her children Stacey, Ryan and Shannon. Private family interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations in Marlene’s memory can be made to the Limerick Centennial Park (cheques payable to the Village of Limerick).
