

With family by his side, Merv passed away January 31, 2017 in Assiniboia Union Hospital. Merv is survived by his loving wife Elda Barnes (Harkins), son Chad & Annette and daughter Taylor; (including Moriah, Madison and Taylor); daughter Cindy & Darrin Karst and their children Lacy & Brad (their daughter Jayla); Dylan and Bradyn; sister Ruth Wiks; brothers Cecil & Kathy Myhre, Calvin & Lois Myhre and Ron Wood; special niece Tracy (Myhre) Daigneault as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews as well as Merv's loyal guardian angel, Charlie. Predeceased by his father Thomas Barnes, mother Hannah (Barnes) Myhre, sister Bev Pickens, brothers-in-law Dave Wiks and David Harkins. Merv was born January 18, 1943 in Assiniboia, SK. Growing up on the family farm and attending Verwood and Assiniboia schools which set the foundation for his many interests and hobbies which include car and antique furniture restorations, his love for music where he accumulated a vast collection of records, cassettes, etc... Merv was employed by Wood River Telephone, then moved to Assiniboia and worked at Kimball Electric for many years, and also worked for Assiniboia Housing before retiring due to his health. Funeral Service was held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. George's Roman Catholic Hall, Assiniboia, Sk. Honour Guard formed by Southern Cruisers Car Club. Tribute given by niece Rhonda Harkins and message from Heath Moore of the car club. Music ministry was provided by Leon Banadyga, Leila Elder and Jean Moldovan. Pallbearers were nephews: Kelly Pickens, Kevin Wiks, Wes Wiks, Clayton Myhre, Shane Harkins and Brent Daigneault. Anette Pryce and Gary K. Miller facilitated the service. Interment followed at the Verwood Cemetery, Verwood, Sk. Donations may be made to STARS, AUH Palliative Care or Ross Payant Nursing Home.
