

On February 20, 2012, Minnie Peterson, passed away at the Estevan Regional Nursing Home. Predeceased by husbands John Kemp and Bill Peterson, siblings Don (Reta), Jack and Winnifred (George) Reitan, and brother-in-law Tory Tronrud, Minnie is survived by her children: Elaine (Wayne) Wilson of Cremona, AB, Gerry (Brenda) Peterson and children Brad, Larisa, and Zach of White Fox, SK, Ken (Kelly) Peterson and children Tara and Daniel of Nipawin, SK, and Al (Carol) Peterson and daughters Chelsey, Ashley and Shelby of Estevan, SK, siblings Bruce Stalker and Beatrice Tronrud as well as several nieces and nephews.
Minnie Catherine Janet, daughter of Simon and Elizabeth Stalker, was born May 28, 1924, on the family farm, in the Leeville district, east of Assiniboia, SK. She grew up in the district and attended Leeville Rural School. Following her schooling, Minnie worked for a few local families, as a nanny, helping with children and farm chores. She met John Kemp of the Hawley district and was married in 1947. They had one daughter Elaine. They farmed the Kemp farm until John passed away of pneumonia in 1951. Minnie and Elaine continued to live on the farm and a few years later she met Bill Peterson, also a farmer from the Hawley district. Minnie and Bill had three sons, Gerald, Kenneth and Allan. They remained on the farm until moving to Assiniboia in 1971 but continued to farm.
Bill and Minnie retired in the 1980’s continuing to make Assiniboia their home. Minnie was very community minded. She is a life member of the Royal Purple, where she served in many functions for many years. She was also very active on the Assiniboia Hospital Auxiliary for a number of years. Minnie enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. She also enjoyed the outdoors, where she and Bill took in a vast amount of fishing and camping excursions along with family and friends. She was very family minded and rarely missed a birthday celebration of the grandchildren. Bill passed away in 1996 and Minnie continued to reside in Assiniboia until her health started to decline. She then moved to Estevan and lived in a Senior Home later moving to the Estevan Regional Nursing Home.
Funeral Service was held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK, on Friday, February 24, 2012. Pastor Arden Barden officiated. Guard of Honor was formed by members of the Royal Purple. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment followed at Emmanuel Prairie Gardens, Congress, SK. Donations in Memory of Minnie may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Emmanuel Prairie Gardens Memorial Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
