OBITUARY

Mrs. Nettie Thomas

January 15, 1930September 2, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our grandmother and friend Nettie Ellen Thomas (Sturrock) born 15 January 1930. She passed away 2 September 2019 with family and friends by her side. Nettie was working for Saskatchewan Government Telephones when she met Ivor. The two were then married in 1958 and settled on the family farm. In 1982 they moved to Assiniboia, SK, where Ivor built their home in which she lived in until recent. During her life Nettie was involved with many things around the community and farm. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; she volunteered at many different places and was always helping out her family, neighbors and friends in any way she could, including keeping the boys fed and in line around the busy farm life. Nettie was also very active and loved to travel. She loved to go camping, fishing, bowling and golfing. She visited England, Alaska and the Yukon just to name a few of her many excursions. Nettie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Nettie is predeceased by her parents James and Ellen (Watson) Sturrock, her husband Ivor and son David. She is survived by her grandson Colby (wife Arlynne and children Reid, Emmett and Anya), Lyndon (wife Shayleen and children Maisey and Hattie), Daralyn Jansen (husband Cory and children Chloe and Austin) and Alyssa Hood-Thomas. Mother of Colby, Lyndon and Daralyn, Marilyn Thomas and partner of David, Carol Bramall. The Funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia, SK. Reverend Janelle Shaw officiated. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star formed a Guard of Honour. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK followed by lunch and fellowship at the 55 Club, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in memory of Nettie can be made to The Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation or the Shrine Hospital for Sick Children. Arrangements are entrusted to Ross Funeral Service Assiniboia, SK.

We send our love and condolences to all our family and Nettie's friends. Although this is a difficult time, we know you have loving memories of happy times spent with Nettie. For us, she was our connection to the grace and good times of Saskatchewan farm life. Bill was always pleased when Nettie would offer dessert for both lunch and dinner! And to be offered a choice of 3 different choices of pie - yum - he always came back for seconds!
We will plant purple petunias again in the Spring xoxo.
Love Wendy (Sturrock) and Bill Leach
