It is with heavy hearts the family of Rodney Eldon August Dahlman announces his passing on September 7, 2013, at the age of 78. Rodney was born September 1, 1935 to Ray & Myrtle (Wagenius) Dahlman - he was the only son in a family of eight children. He was raised on the family farm in the Readlyn district, where he developed his passion for farming and his love of animals. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Jean (Simpson), who was the local school teacher. They were blessed with three children - first a son, followed by two daughters. Rodney's love for his Redeemer was reflected in his gentle and kind spirit. He had a joyful heart, a zest for life, a wonderful sense of humour and a contagious laugh. His family was his main priority, but his nurturing spirit extended beyond his immediate family to include relatives, friends, and neighbours. He was a very well rounded individual, and was active in service to his community, holding positions on many community boards - Readlyn United Church and Credit Union; Assiniboia Co-op and Apostolic Church, to name a few. He served as a delegate and later as director for 17 years with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He was respected by his fellow board members for his intelligence, eloquence, sense of humor and genuine heart. Rodney enjoyed travelling. He and Jean took many trips with the Wheat Pool and on their own - they visited Sweden and many places in the United States and Canada. Travel highlights in recent years included trips to Cuba, the Yukon and a rejuvenating trip to Mexico with his siblings and their spouses. His downtime was spent at his cabin, which became his oasis - generously shared with both family and friends. Rodney is predeceased by: his parents, Ray and Myrtle; mother and father in-law Harold and Bertha Simpson; sister Marlene Watson, four brother in-laws, one sister in-law, and two nieces.
