Rose Kress
Rose Josephine Kress, beloved wife of the late Tony Kress, passed away peacefully at the Mankota Prairie View Health Center on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 on her 93 birthday.
Rose was born on November 22, 1932 in Masefield, Saskatchewan to Anton and Margaret Glas. She grew up in Masefield, then later moved to Sinclair, Manitoba. After completing high school, she moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, married Tony in 1951 and together built their farm six miles west of Mankota in the Billimun area where they raised three children.
Rose was very active in the community. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 50 years. She was a dedicated secretary for the Billimun and Mankota Roman Catholic churches for many years. Her hobbies include reading, crocheting, knitting, plants and gardening. She was very musical and could play organ, guitar, accordion and harmonica. She was a skilled seamstress who had many customers from the surrounding area in need of sewing or repairs. She enjoyed the challenges over the years, only retiring from sewing at age 90. Rose was an excellent bowler, receiving many trophies. She also accepted the position of secretary of the Mankota Bowling Association, where she diligently recorded scores weekly, for many years. In December 1985, Tony and Rose semi-retied from farming and moved to their new home in Mankota, Saskatchewan. She spent her final years caring for her husband. In April 2025, she moved to the Mankota Prairie View Health Centre.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Tony, brother Albert (Martha) Glas, sisters Kay (Ray) Henkie, Irene (John) Wickenheiser, Adeline (Gabe) Wickenheiser and Deloris (Clem) Stengler, and brother-in-law Leo Schneider. Rose is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Russell) Robertson, Merles (Joanne) Kress and Brenda Lee (Stuart) Poncsak; grandchildren: Shannon (Steaphan) Dougall, Andrea (Gaston) Sirois, Dalton Kress (Carrie), Bri-Andy Kress (Clayton), Asha-Lee Kress, Braedyn Poncsak (Isabella), Arianna Poncsak (Lucas); great-grandchildren: Lucas and Brinley Dougall, Beau, Brielle and Loic Sirois, Bexley and Ayla Schmidt and Harriet Poncsak; sister Leona Schneider; brothers Ron (Del) Glas and Don (Ann) Glas, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the Mankota Agricultural Hall with Celebrant, Father Yves Martial Kouame. Readers are granddaughters Shannon and Andrea. Tribute delivered by Joanne Kress. Pallbearers grandchildren Shannon, Dalton, Bri-Andy, Asha-Lee, Braedyn, Arianna, Andrea. Interment in St. Martin’s R.C. Cemetery, Billimun, Saskatchewan. Fellowship and lunch to follow at the Mankota Agricultural Hall. Masses may be said or donations in Rose’s memory to the Mankota & District Health Auxiliary.
