Tinnie was born October 29, 1912 on the family farm, Limerick, SK. She grew up in the area and attended school at Milden, a little country school. Tinnie walked to school and back home each day, often carrying her shoes to save them for when she arrived at school. She was a very bright student. After Grade Eight, she stayed on the farm to help her parents and brothers with the chores.
Tinnie was skillful at crocheting, knitting, embroidering and creating covered hangers. At the farm, Tinnie cooked, cleaned, canned, milked cows, drove the truck to the fields with lunch, hauled grain and helped stook. She grew a beautiful garden each year adorned with wonderful flowers and fruit trees. Tinnie looked after her mother, stepfather and brother Rudolph until their deaths. Family dinners were created and served at their home in Limerick and later in Assiniboia.
When in Assiniboia, Tinnie was an active member of the Catholic Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She curled, bowled, played many games with friends and loved to be challenged by Scratch and Win.
Tinnie loved to attend local dances. She knew current songs of the times and would often be caught singing the lyrics when listening to the radio.
Tinnie moved from her house in Assiniboia to a cottage. When her health continued to deteriorate, she was placed in the Lafleche Health Centre. She was feisty in her demands and expected instant service from the nurses. Home Care in Assiniboia provided good care and the staff at the Lafleche health Centre provided exemplary services.
The nieces and nephews (Tinnie’s family) are grateful for the devotion of the staff at the Lafleche Health Centre, for the friends and relatives who visited her and to Dr. Coneys.
Predeceased by her parents, Antonia and Adolph Shimsha; brothers Joseph Merinsky, Adolph, Rudolph and Edward Shimsha, Tinnie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
