Alphonso Fogle

December 25, 1941March 2, 2018

Alphonso “Tjader” Fogle was born on December 25, 1941 to the late Adam Fogle and Louise Gillard-Fogle both of Orangeburg, S.C. Tjader was born in Orlando, Florida and moved to New York with his family as a toddler.

Tjader was educated in the New York Public School system. Having attended Boys High School in Brooklyn, NY (now known as Boys and Girls High), he majored in architecture. As such, early on during his illness, he was able to secure a position with a large firm in the Wall Street Area as a Blueprint Draftsman.

Tjader met Carmen Cordero in the Queensbridge Projects and they have a son, Al “Lil Tjader” Fogle. Tjader lived and loved Christ, he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at a early age, He worshiped the Lord at the Community Church of Astoria where he became a member.

Tjader was shot and left for dead in 1972. Doctors said that he would not survive his injury, but God had the last word. Although he was a paraplegic, obviously someone forgot to tell him. With the guidance from Goldwater Hospital a new found friendship with Hank Carter, they together created the infamous Wheelchair classics (Tjader played on the team for many years), coordinated fashion shows, gospel showcases fundraisers and Tjader, acted in the capacity of advocate for patients of Goldwater and Coler Hospitals. Hank and Tjader’s relationship went far and above a friendship, they are truly brothers. Anyone that knew Tjader knew that his passion was singing, and sing he did, wherever and whenever, a song hit his heart. His lifelong dream came true when he sang at the Apollo Theater on their Amateur Night Hour and won third place (2015).

Tjader is survived by his mother Louise Fogle, sister Maggie Jean Lewis, son Al “Lil Tjader” Fogle, Lil Tjader’s wife, Marie, Granddaughter Nazarae Fogle, and his great-grandchildren Jaiden, Madison and Suhaiyll, Nephew, Ricky Pearson, niece Gina Epps, ( James) and children Candice and Terance Epps, niece Katuhra Lewis-Redwood and her son Barrington III, Brother Hank Carter, and life long friend, love of his life, best friend, confidant, and caretaker Janet Guitard -Johnson, Goddaughter Shaunet Guitard-Roberts (Ronald), his Uncle Philip Fogle, Aunt Martha Shuler, First cousins Harriet Shuler, Earlian Turner, Deborah Miner, Willie Story.
