George J. Agius

George Joseph Agius, an Astoria resident passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 91. George was born in Malta, Europe March 11, 1926 and was the youngest of 12 children. He is survived by one brother, Salvinu who resides in Malta. He served in both the US Army and US Air Force (1947-1954). He was a resident of the Bronx for two years before moving to Astoria in 1957 with his loving wife Mary, (who Predeceased him in 2008). They raised their seven children, Carol (and Marc Gonzalez), Raymond (and Mary Ellen), John, Linda (and Allen Edwards) and Janet (and Lincoln Woodard). He was Predeceased by his daughter Diane and his son Steve. George will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, Michael (and Nichole) and Jennifer Gonzalez (and Alex), Matthew and Justin Edwards.

George worked as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineer for many years in Manhattan, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed carpentry, building puzzles, playing musical instruments and spending time with his family after retirement.

A mass will be held on August 25 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
