Joan McDonald

Joan Dorothy (Korff) McDonald, 71 years, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Elmhurst Hospital. She was born on November 30, 1941 in Astoria. Joanie was the daughter of late Carl and Nellie (Cairnes) Korff. She married Daniel Ambrose McDonald on November 30, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Church in Astoria, Queens County, New York.

She will be long remembered for her love of animals and always having a camera in her hand. She was a devout Catholic and attended daily Mass whenever her health allowed. She had many childhood friends and dear friends from the neighborhood where she lived for the past forty five years especially Michael DeFrance and Clair Kummerle who assisted Joanie throughout the final days of her illness.

She is survived by her aunt, Dorothy May of Rhode Island, two sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, many cousins including Robert LaRusse, Denise LaRusse-Hare, Neil LaRusse, James May, John Perkins, Nancy Beasly, Karen Carey, many nieces and nephews as well as her dear friend, Mary Miller of Florida.

Besides her late parents, she was predeceased by her husband Daniel McDonald and her sister, Barbara Normyle. May her soul rest in peace.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:15 AM at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.
