Alleah Susan Seliskar left to be with our lord on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016. She passed away peacefully in her Atascadero, CA home after her courageous battle with brain cancer at the age of 65. Susan was born March 4, 1951, in Oakland, CA to Yousif and Sylva Dajani. She grew up in Martinez, CA. Susan attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and graduated with a B.A. in History and earned her Teaching Credential. She also met her future husband, John Seliskar, while at Cal Poly. After teaching for three years, she took a break to become a wonderful mother to her three children. Later, she returned to teaching special education for 23 years in the Atascadero Unified School District. She had a great passion to help children with special needs and would rejoice when they conquered a difficult concept. As a longtime Atascadero resident, Susan had a deep desire to be involved in the community and helping others. She was active in several volunteer organizations, including AAUW, Senior Nutrition Program, ECHO Homeless Shelter, Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County, Atascadero Historical Society, PEO, Boy Scouts, Girl Scout and Hearst Castle Living History Program. Susan was an active member of the St. Williams Parish. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends, traveling, gardening, square dancing and camping. Susan’s witty sense of humor and zest for life will be missed by her many friends and family. Susan had a deep respect for family and her greatest joy came from being with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John Seliskar, of 43 years, her children Janez (Lisa), Yousif (Grace) and Mateja Seliskar and her grandchildren Trig, Brooke, John, Ginger, Jack, Ivan, Brody, Stewart and Calvin.
