Carol graduated from Fort Smith Christian School in 1986, first in her class and serving as valedictorian. With characteristic determination and a forward-looking mind, she embraced the arrival of the internet by purchasing an apple computer, teaching herself to write HTML codes, and creating several websites in the late 1990’s that became very successful in retail sales. In a practical expression of her diligence and purpose, this work helped pay for her education at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned her RN degree and began a lifelong career in nursing and health. She served at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio as a Cardiothoracic ICU nurse, bringing steady focus and deep care to demanding work. Her commitment to healthcare continued as she earned an MBA and through experience and other credentials, rose to become a nursing director in well-known hospitals in the country.
Carol’s interests reflected both curiosity and devotion. She was a huge fan of the Royal Family and royal history, enjoyed the music of Madonna, and lately Taylor Swift. She was also a stamp collector, and she was especially excited when she received the first stamp ever made—an English Penny Black from 1840. At the zoo, her favorite animals were the meerkats, and she would watch them and smile. In quieter moments—during Bible studies, Christian history, or prophesy readings—she would stand by the sliding glass door and marvel at a family of California Quail coming out of the bushes every morning. She was a true believer in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. People loved and admired Carol, and they enjoyed hearing her speak in a voice that was strong and clear, filled with love and compassion for everyone. Her laugh was one that everyone just fell in love with.
Carol is survived by her husband, Doug Ludlow; sister, Janice Cecil and her husband Robert Cecil of Van Buren, Arkansas; brother, Eldon Chitwood and his wife Lisa Chitwood of Van Buren, Arkansas; and one sister-in-law, Renita Chitwood of Fort Smith, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Sue Chitwood, Bobby Gene Chitwood, her sister Bobbi Sue (Chitwood) Vervack, two brothers; Don Chitwood and James Chitwood.
Respecting the wishes of family, no services are planned at this time.
