Our beloved and beautiful Donna Heather Cappel went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 1, 2016. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. We would like to express our gratitude for the support and love shown by her friends during this trying time. On December 16, 1947 Donna Zazulak was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Zazulak’s migrated to Whittier, CA when Donna was five. After graduation from high school in 1965 she moved to Honolulu, HI where she played and worked for two years. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1966. When she returned to Whittier she met Ron Cappel, who became the love of her life. They married in 1970 and traveled through the U.S. and Canada for six months to visit their many relatives. Donna gave birth to two wonderful sons, Daniel in 1973 and Louis in 1974. She nurtured her sons with love, compassion, and great food. In 1983 the Cappel family moved to Atascadero for a slower pace of life. They seamlessly transitioned to the Central Coast lifestyle. From 1985 to 2008 Donna worked at Atascadero Jr. High School. Her amazing personality made her a favorite for countless students and staff. Her grandchildren Joelle and Drew gave her so much joy, whether it was baking cookies together, doing crafts, playing games or just "hanging out". Donna loved them with all her heart. Donna was a giving person by nature and loved being active in the community. She was involved with St. Williams Catholic Church, Quota Club, the Literacy Council, and visited Vineyard Hills Convalescent Home with her licensed therapy dog, Brody, bringing joy to many. Donna enjoyed fine food and wine, making wonderful meals (including award winning pies!) and entertaining friends. She had a passion for gardening, Dodger baseball, and Vin Scully. Donna leaves behind her beloved husband Ron, sons Dan and Louis, daughter-in-law Loreli, grandchildren Joelle and Drew, and sisters Sandra, Gail and Susan. A memorial service will be held at St. Williams Parish in Atascadero at 11am on Saturday October 8th. A reception will follow at the Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero. All are welcome.
