Joel Stinchfield passed away peacefully with family by his side at Twin Cities Community Hospital on January 2, 2016. He was 74 years old. Joel was a native of San Luis Obispo County. He was born at the Atascadero General Hospital in 1941 to Don & Ethel May Stinchfield. He graduated Atascadero High School in 1958 and shortly thereafter, he spent time serving his country in the Coast Guard, as well as a short enrollment in San Jose State University. He returned to Atascadero, to assist his father with the family business, the Don Stinchfield & Son's, Goodyear Tire Shop in Atascadero. Joel married his High School sweetheart, Gerry Akers in 1961. He worked as an appraiser for Atascadero Guarantee Savings and Loan for a short time. He also contributed his time to the local chapter of the Lions Club International. Joel enjoyed building and creating with wood and metal. This was a very rewarding hobby of his. He worked for DeCou Lumber for many years and progressed into receiving his General Contractor's License. It is so wonderful to see the homes in our North County area that he has built. They are a living legacy to his mastery of the craft. In 1977, Joel moved his family to Paso Robles, and proceeded to build the beautiful property that his family still resides upon. After retiring from the construction business, Joel worked at Coast to Coast Hardware in Paso Robles, as well as Heritage Oaks Bank for a number of years. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, creating all sorts of artistic woodwork, utilizing his lathe and various other types of woodworking equipment. Joel was a true "Jack-of-all-trades", and held many different jobs in his life. He met multitudes of people along his journey of life, and will be fondly remembered by many. Joel is survived by his older brother, D. Jack Stinchfield, his wife Gerry Akers Stinchfield, his daughter, Kristin Stinchfield Bruce and his son, Jason Stinchfield, all of Paso Robles. His family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses and Physical Therapists at Vineyard Hills Health Center and Twin Cities E.R. & I.C.U. departments for the wonderful care they provided him.
