Judie was born to William Walker and Lola McCammon Walker on October 4th 1942. She had one younger brother- David Walker. At the age of 10, her father died in a car accident. Years later she gained a step father, Domingo ‘Dee’ Capdeville who she referred to as ‘Pops.’
Judie met the love of her life Jose when going to college at Mount Sac in Southern California. They started a family early and had 2 daughters - Jody and Julie. Even though she became a mother at the young age of 19, both daughters would agree that she was the best mother anyone could ever hope to have.
Once both her girls started school, Judie pursued her own education and career. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cal Poly and later a Masters Degree in Education. She spent over 30 years teaching Special Ed and Kindergarten along with dance lessons and Sunday school.
Judie made friends wherever she went. People just naturally loved her due to her intelligence, joyfulness, kindness, willingness to help and overall fun personality. She loved to dance - especially Tap Dance. She even taught students tap for free and held a Tap Dance assembly for her school to honor her favorite activity. She was an avid reader. It was not uncommon for her to read multiple books in a week which is why she had a vocabulary that was off the charts. Judie also loved to travel with her husband, Joe. They traveled to over 47 states, all over Europe and parts of Central America and Asia as well. In between travels, dancing and reading, she was the volunteer extraordinaire. She was a giver and a helper. Some of her favorites were with AAUW, Dancing with our Stars, helping with her daughters’ then grandsons’ school, church and multiple community projects.
Judie’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Jose Magonacelaya. Other family members include daughters Jody Franta ( with son in law- Jim Franta) and Julie Magonacelaya, grandsons - Tyler Franta ( with wife -Marta Codina) and Luke Franta. She was able to meet her great grandson, Liam Codina Franta prior to her passing which gave her great joy in the circle of life. She also left behind her nephew Robert Walker (with wife -Kristen and daughter- Ava) as well as multiple cousins that she adored.
The world is a better place because of Judie and anyone who knew her was touched by her love.
